Reading notes: The Handmaid's Tale
The Handmaid's Tale is simply one of the best books I have ever read. The book is well written with evocative language, making it one of the most enjoyable line-to-line books I have read. The story is personable, like a vignette, personally my favourite style of literature. It's full of passion, lust, desire, without being overly or unnecessarily sexual. It's so well balanced and tasteful, where every discussion of sexuality is important to the story and it's main character. Politics are only briefly discussed directly, but the book is deeply political and full of social commentary without seeming to be condescending.
It's simply a masterpiece. I would happily read this again at any time.
