Reading notes: Modern Love

Modern Love is a collection of stories from the New York Times column of the same name. The stories range from romantic flings, one night stands, to the love for one's parents or child. Common in all these stories is some unusual characteristic, sometimes this can teach us something, and sometimes it's just that, unusual.
For me the compositions of stories was large gaps in quality, some stories were very good, others were very poor. Particularly the American dating scene and culture, or maybe more precisely New York's, did not interest me in the slightest and was more depressing the read than anything. A world devoid of honesty and authenticity. The first part of the book had more of these horror stories.
The later stories in the book however were really excellent. Particularly those on family matters were nearly all of them touching, emotional and wonderful.
With a collection of stories it's inevitable that some stories will be hit or miss, but overall it's well worth the read.
