Reading notes: Invisible Cities
Invisible Cities is the somewhat surreal story of a conversation between Marco Polo and Kublai Khan about his travels through the empire. In these conversations Marco describes cities, which increasingly clearly appear to be imaginary. However each story of each city tells us something about cities, human living, culture, history or life itself.
It's definitely one of the most thought provoking books I have read recently, with each short story requiring some time for reflection before moving on to the next city. I think this is a book that will only grow more beautiful if reread multiple times. The prose is already beautifully flowing like poetry, with a rhythm and a heartbeat.
At times the text was a little inaccessible for me, not being able to really grasp the lesson from a particular section, which lessened the experience for me, but I presume coming back to this text at a later point will allow me the full appreciation.
